Spiritual Liquidity – Thriving in Changing Times

This is a guide for - The Anthem Church, Thousand Oaks Team Meeting May 17, 2022.

It may also be a useful devotional path for others.

Fluidity & Flexibility:

Matthew 9:16-17  “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

  • ?? Why does Jesus say its unwise to sew a new patch on and old garment?

  • ?? What does Jesus say is the result of new wine in old wineskins?

  • ?? What action does Jesus specifically tell us to take?

  • ?? Am I MORE LIQUID OR SOLID in how I see ministry and life today?

  • ?? In way ways and ministry areas do we need to become fluid or creative, how do we flex for ministry here and now?

Fatigue / Weariness

Galatians 6:9-10 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

 Looking Upward & Forward

Hebrews 12:1-3 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Reward

  • Matthew 16:27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done.

  • Luke 6:23 “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their fathers treated the prophets.

  • 1 Corinthians 3:8 The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor.

  • Ephesians 6:7-8 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men,  because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.

  • Revelation 22:12 “Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.

Prayer Time Guidance

 Ask Jesus:

  • Am I more Liquid or Solid? In what ways or areas?

  • What hinders me / us that needs to be thrown off?

  • Am I losing, or have I lost heart?  What will I do about this?

  • Have I been looking up and forward at you Jesus or looking in the rear view mirror?

  • How will I “look at Jesus” more intently, more regularly and “consider” Him to get thrust for today and tomorrow?

Ask Jesus to Give You:

  • Sacred Liquidity

  • Holy Perspective

  • Sanctified Creativity

  • Spirit -Powered Perseverance
